Watch this race between a Porsche 918 Spyder and the McLaren P1. Pro driver Randy Probst tests both cars around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Both cars are plug in hybrids with high performance, high horse power V-8 engines with 900 horsepower. Using carbon fiber on the body panels and tubs, both cars are also rather light.
The P1 has a twin turbo 3.8 liter V-8 and uses the 177 HP electric motor more to remove the turbo lag as opposed to a real power source. The P1 uses an electronically controlled hydraulic system that lowers and the ride height based on the drive setting chosen as well as suspension stiffness.
The 918 on the hand has two electric motors that assist the 4.6 liter V-8. A front electric motor supplies 129 HP while the rear electric supplies 156 HP. The interesting thing about this car is that rear tires also steer because the front and rear axles are not connected.
Watch as both cars hit the track with Probst’s expert driving.
